NEW DEVELOPMENT: Co-op team leader David Shannon is delighted at news of the investment.
THE Co-operative is investing £200,000 in its food store on Cardwell Road, Gourock.
The investment will see the Gourock store receive a new layout, eco-refrigeration and signage, ensuring a more pleasant shopping experience for customers picking up their groceries.
Paul McLauchlan, manager of the town's Co-operative Food store, said: "We operate in the heart of the community and by doing so provide an ideal location for people to shop locally.
"It is important that we continue to meet people's needs and provide a welcoming environment in which to shop.
"Upgrading the store will freshen up the shopping experience and improve the vitality of the local area.
"I look forward to welcoming customers into the new-look store."
The Co-operative is different because it gives profits back to members through the membership scheme.
Members can choose to keep the cash or donate all or part of their share to local good causes.
Membership of The Co-operative Group, which costs just £1, offers a range of benefits including a say in how stores are run and the opportunity to support The Co-operative's campaigns on issues such as climate change and social inclusion.
The retailer, which has a food store in every postal area of the UK, has undergone transformation in recent years to become a leading light in food retailing.

Report commentNot sure how much improvement can be made with the lack of space in the store. You can hardly move in the narrow aisles. There are always lenghty queues especially at peak times and with the new double yellow lines and zig zags at the crossing it's almost impossible to park. Roll on a new supermarket in Gourock.
