THE chieftain for this year's Highland Games has been announced today.

Guy Clark, the Lord-Lieutenant of Renfrewshire, will proceed over the 56th games, ensuring a Royal flavour to reflect Diamond Jubilee year.

The showpiece will be held on Sunday 13 May, with preparations well under way

Mr Clark said: "I am delighted to be invited to be chieftain of the 2012 Gourock Highland Games as Lord-Lieutenant of Renfrewshire during Her Majesty The Queen's Diamond Jubilee year.

"I meet many individuals, voluntary organisations, charities and local businesses during the course of the year but I am particularly looking forward to meeting a number of them all enjoying themselves at one event.

"I am sure I shall also be seeing a number of friends and acquaintances and meeting many new people too.

"I regard being asked to be Chieftain of the Gourock Highland Games as a great honour and am immensely looking forward to the occasion."
