IT will be many happy returns for a popular local singing group as members celebrate its second birthday with two special concerts.

The much-loved Woopi Singers - formerly the Woopi Choir - will mark the anniversary with a country and western themed performance in Gourock.

A selection of the 60-strong group of singers will play two charity gigs at the Gamble Halls on Friday, firstly from 2.30 until 4pm then again from 7 until 8.30pm.

The concerts are in aid of the School Age Language Unit (Salu) which is currently based at Highlanders' Academy.

Talented vocalist Marlene 'Mazz' Gray is also returning to support the singers at the Gamble Halls, Gourock, on Friday.

Woopi - wider opportunities for older people in Inverclyde - started on 28 April 2010 and has grown in popularity and numbers.

Mary Greig, of the Woopi Singers, said: "This will be a nice anniversary performance. Some singers have also been learning line dancing so they will be incorporating that too.

"It's going to be a busy day for the singers." Tickets for both shows are available from Domani, Oak Mall, Your Voice, Clyde Square, or by calling 07939 846717. A minimum donation of 4 is sought.
