A TALENTED young football team from Gourock put in a goal-den performance to secure a top-10 finish at a national competition.

The squad from Moorfoot Primary school put in a brave display at the Lloyds TSB Scotland National Junior Sevens Final at Glasgow's Toryglen last week, finishing sixth out of nearly 300 schools.

Moorfoot made the latter stages of the tournament after qualifying from a series of regional heats comprising over 285 teams in total.

After finishing third in a tough group section, the Gourock school was narrowly beaten 2-1 in a play-off match against George Watson's College, Edinburgh, and finished in a very respectable sixth place overall.

Kevin McLaughlin, of Lloyds TSB Scotland, who was at the finals, said: "It's a great achievement for those involved to represent their respective regions in a national final, especially given the high number of schools who took part."
