A FABULOUS fun day out was had by all in Gourock at a new outdoor music event in aid of local causes.

The Gourock Rotary Club hosted the first ever Hark in the Park — an event of live music, dancing and fun and games for the whole family.

It took place in the walled garden area of Gourock Park last week and performers also took to the stage at the nearby amphitheatre.

Star attractions included The Woopi Singers, Inverclyde folk rockers Reely Jiggered, Port Glasgow singer songwriter John Morgan, local musician Davy Nicol and the Royal Navy HMS Neptune Volunteer Band.

The event was hosted by Greenock dance queen Lauren Hair.

There was a vintage bus on show courtesy of McGill’s — which also carried cruise passengers from Greenock Ocean Terminal to Gourock for free — an old fire engine and games including a human fruit machine.

The event was organised in aid of the McPherson Centre, Inverclyde Foodbank and the Royal Navy Marines Charity.

Alex Murphy, club president, said: “There’s nothing like a fun day out for the family in the sunshine and if it also benefits charities, so much the better!

“As usual, the people of Gourock and Inverclyde were generous, and, although final counting hasn’t been completed yet, there’s no doubt that a substantial sum was donated for the charities.

“Gourock Rotary would like to give our sincere and heartfelt thanks to everyone who came as well as the generous sponsors: Bay Ices, McGill’s Buses, Gage Eccosse Joinery, Your Health Visitor, and also to those who provided great support on the day including The Hub Gourock, Lauren’s Booty Bounce and The 1st Gourock Scouts.” It was the first Hark in the Park organised by the Rotary club and other activities included face painting, balloon art, bouncy castle and lawn games.

Admission was free but donations for charity were encouraged.

Organisers are so thrilled with the feedback and turnout from locals that plans are already being drawn up for next year.

Mr Murphy said: “Truly a complete yet affordable afternoon’s entertainment, entry being free and activities accessed at only a pound.

“See you next year when we hope it will be even bigger and better!”
