ONE of Inverclyde’s best known beauty spots has had a makeover to leave it looking nice and tidy for everyone to enjoy.

Lunderston Bay is a popular haven for people wanting to enjoy a stroll along the waterfront and take in the spectacular views of the River Clyde.

But from time-to-time, rubbish left behind by irresponsible people can gather at the site.

Fortunately, Lunderston is one of the areas which takes part in the annual Great British Beach Clean.

The national event takes place at the end of September across a full weekend and sees teams of volunteers all over the country stepping in to do their bit.

The Tele went along to Lunderston Bay to see the local ground force in action and capture some pictures of the team hard at work.

The Great British Beach Clean is organised by the Marine Conservation Society as part of its Beachwatch initiative, now in its 21st year. It aims to improve the local environment, while giving those involved a chance to enjoy the great outdoors and get some fresh air by the seaside.

A detailed record is kept of the litter which each team records, with sturdy footwear and gloves the order of the day for those taking part.

People from near and far clubbed together to do their bit at Lunderston Bay — and thankfully the sun shone on the day.

As well as folk from Inverclyde, welcome reinforcements were on hand too — with a contingent of Erskine Boys’ Club armed with supplied binbags and clipboards, pitching in.

The Lunderston tidy up team were part of an army of thousands taking part right across the UK and the logs of the items they discovered will now be used by the MCS as evidence for their ongoing campaign for cleaner seas and beaches.

The results from the local beach clean exercise will be made public in the spring once all the survey sheets have been fully analysed.
