JAILED paedophile James Giff invited a young man with whom he had a ‘previous involvement’ into his home whilst on bail awaiting sentence, the Tele can reveal.

The predator — who growled like a dog as he preyed on one of his victims — met up with an unnamed male just days before being sent to prison last week.

Prosecutor Lindy Scaife confirmed that the man knew the convicted sex offender — and there was concern that Giff, pictured, might need to be protected from him.

She told Greenock Sheriff Court, inset, that police were tipped off about a man making his way to the pervert’s house in the town’s Royal Court at around 11.30pm on 13 October.

Fiscal depute Ms Scaife added: “The information received was that the male had previous involvement with the accused.

“Officers made their way to the house to protect the accused. They identified themselves on the intercom system.

“The accused was heavily under the influence of alcohol and had already granted the male access to his home.

“He began verbally abusing the police, swearing and calling them ‘idiots’.” The Telegraph told last week how sex offender Giff, 57, wept and struggled with three court guards after Sheriff Derek Hamilton handed him a 43-month extended sentence.

It came after he had previously admitted plying a 15-year-old lad with booze before inflicting a sordid sexual assault on the terrified victim.

Giff — who also pled guilty to a sex attack on another teenage male — put his hands inside the schoolboy’s underwear, then made canine-like noises and bared his teeth after the youth pulled away from him.

He was originally indicted on a catalogue of charges regarding sexual assaults he was alleged to have carried out on six different people aged from 14 to 36.

Giff admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear or alarm on 13 October. He repeatedly shouted and swore, made abusive remarks and behaved in a threatening manner at his home and at Greenock police office.

Sheriff Hamilton admonished Giff for the offence but said he was at a loss as to understand his actions.

The sheriff remarked: “Why he has given access to his house to another young man, I really do wonder.” He told Giff: “I can’t begin to understand your behaviour. You were given a sentence last week, so I will simply admonish and dismiss you on this charge.” Giff must serve 13 months in jail and a further 30 months on licence under strict supervision in the community after his release from custody.
