A YOUNG chef cooked up a storm for proud family and teachers as excitement bubbles away ahead of his appearance at a top national competition.

Members of Gourock Rotary were served up a treat at Gourock Yacht Club last Thursday when Clydeview Academy student Kyle Thomas, pictured with club president Alex Murphy and teacher Grace McKendrick, produced a cordon bleu meal for them. Kyle is the winner of the Rotary Club of Gourock’s Young Chef of the Year Award, and is practising for his appearance tomorrow at South Lanarkshire College in East Kilbride for the next stage towards the national title.

The diners, who included his proud mother and grandmother, were treated to a menu of caramelised red onion goat’s cheese tart followed by ballotine of chicken with pork and thyme stuffing.

Kyle’s domestic science teacher at Clydeview, Grace McKendrick, was delighted with the dishes he prepared, which were as beautifully presented as they were delicious.

Mrs McKendrick also has past links with the organisation, having been a former Rotary International Exchange Student to Australia.

Gourock club president Alex Murphy said: “The members all wish Kyle well in the next stage of his endeavours.

“We would like to thank Gourock Yacht Club’s chef, Greg Rons for his help in making Kyle’s first attempt at cooking for real diners such a success.”
