IT was mind over matter for a Gourock drum teacher when she faced her fears to raise money for a good cause.

Sporty Lesley McLaren negotiated barbed wire tunnels, muddy trenches, waist-high lakes, ice-cold water and electric wires to complete the 12-mile Tough Mudder assault course in Dumfries recently.

Her heroic efforts have raised over £400 for Mind Mosaic – a Greenock-based organisation which provides counselling and therapy services.

Lesley told the Telegraph: “I was really nervous about it as I’m quite claustrophobic so I was worried about the barbed wire tunnel.

“But it was for such a great cause. I know Gwyneth MacDonald from Mind Mosaic really well so I’ve heard about all the great work they are doing and the fact that their service is in great demand.

“I also teach some children and adults who use the service and can see the benefits of how it helps people at first-hand.

Gwyneth, who is the director of adult services at Mind Mosaic which is based in Hood Street, was overwhelmed by Lesley’s efforts.

She said: “It’s phenomenal and we’re really humbled that she has chosen to raise money for us.

“Mind Mosaic doesn’t get funding from the health board or from Inverclyde Council so we rely on grants.

“But the demand for our services is huge.” Lesley was keen to thank Tosh Cameron from Personal Body Train team who she trained with before the main event.

Anyone who would like to donate money for Lesley’s challenge can do so online via the Mind Mosaic Facebook page or through a Just Giving page at https://crowdfunding.justgiving.com/lesley-mclaren-2
