PUPILS and parents at a Gourock high school enjoyed a blast from the past during a sell-out run of their 1980s-inspired annual show.

Clydeview Academy went ‘Back to the 80s’ to mark the end of term — and celebrate all that was great about the decade.

Around 70 pupils in total, from S1 through to S6, helped make the show a resounding success during three performances in the run-up to the summer holidays.

Each night was jam-packed with Rubik’s cubes, leggings and shoulder pads as the cast danced along to famous songs like Footloose, Video Killed the Radio Star, We Are The World and I’ve Had The Time Of My Life.

Even the parents and staff joined in and turned up in their favourite 80s outfits.

The show was organised by Greenock musician and Clydeview principal teacher of music, Alan Beck.

Mr Beck said: “It was absolutely fantastic and it was a complete sell-out like last year’s show Beauty and the Beast.

“The pupils had an absolute ball, as did the parents, who came dressed up.

“I also dressed up with a mullet wig as one of Wham.

“For many of the parents, the 80s was their time and they all got into the spirit of it.” As well as starring roles on stage, the hard-working students put in a great performance behind the scenes and were also in control of every element of the production.

Mr Beck said: “The whole show was actually co-ordinated by the pupils, from lighting to technical and every year group was represented.

“There were around 70 young people involved in total — 50 on stage and 20 backstage.

“It was a great experience for them.”
