MORE arrests have been made following disorder at a Morton v Motherwell match which led to the referee halting the game.

Two men aged 16 and 17 were arrested at the September game at Cappielow, where a female police officer suffered a significant injury as a result of the crowd trouble.

Extensive further enquiries have been carried out to identify further offenders.

Police Scotland officers from Greenock led an early morning 'Campaign Against Violence' operation today which resulted in the arrest of three further men in the Motherwell area in relation to the disorder.

A 21-year-old has been charged with serious assault on the injured police officer, and assaulting a second police officer during the disturbance.

A 19-year-old man and a 21-year-old have both been arrested and charged with obstruction of police in the execution of their duty and contravention of the Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications (Scotland) Act 2012.

Inspector Damian Kane of Greenock police said disorder at sporting events and violence towards the police will not be tolerated.

He told the Tele: "Anyone who chooses to behave in this manner can expect to be pursued by Police Scotland and receive an early morning wake-up call from us, followed by a period in custody – not to mention the prospect of life changing/career ending convictions.

"Those who think they can blend into a large crowd and get away with disorderly behaviour simply because they are at a football match should bear in mind that, even if they are not caught at the time, we will use the many means at our disposal to identify and arrest them.

"This inquiry is not over and will continue as long as necessary to identify others involved in the disorder."
