A GREENOCK amateur footballer is ‘glowing places’ as he swaps muddy pitches for a starring role in a reality TV show.

Tommy MacFarlane, a defender for Greenock High School Former Pupils, will feature in Glow – a six week reality show following the lives of 11 people from Glasgow and the surrounding area.

The 25-year-old, from Wemyss Bay, says securing a part on the programme is a dream come true.

He told the Tele: “Since the news came out that I would be on the show, its been a bit of a whirlwind.

“My phone has been going non-stop with people messaging me. I’ve always wanted to break into TV.

“I’m quite an outgoing person, so this is the perfect opportunity.”

When he was a teenager Tommy was selected to go to Florida for a sport scholarship.

He said: “I was a former pupil of Greenock High School and in sixth year I moved to Florida for a year long soccer scholarship.

“It was a great experience.”

Since moving back to Scotland, Tommy has worked behind the bar at Word Up in Greenock before becoming a club promoter in Glasgow.

He added: “I run my own club nights at The Shimmy Club in Royal Exchange Square and at Kushion nightclub in Bath Street.

“Where I work is extremely glamorous and everyone dresses to impress, so it fits in perfectly with the show as it’s about showing the glamorous side of Glasgow.”

Tommy hopes the show will be as successful as other hit reality programmes such as ‘The Only Way is Essex’, ‘Made in Chelsea’ and ‘Geordie Shore’.

He added: “Three years ago I worked with Marty McKenna in Magaluf, who went on to star in MTV’s Geordie Shore.

“I saw how the TV show changed his life, as he’s doing really well.”

Tommy already has his own fan club in the form of his dad Tommy senior, gran Barbara, auntie Allina and his uncle Billy.

He added: “They are all really proud and are buzzing to see the show unfold.

My mum Kay passed away seven years ago after battling cancer and I know she would be so proud of me too.

“She was always telling me to get out there and show people what I’m like.”

Filming for the show by production company GRTV has already started.

Tommy said: “Viewers can expect a lot of juicy drama coming out of the show – sparks are going to fly. It’s going to be unmissable.”

The first episode of the weekly show will be aired on October 20 online at www.glasglow.tv and it can also be downloaded for free on a mobile app.
