A DRUNK driver who crashed her car into another vehicle in Greenock after dark was almost SIX times the legal alcohol limit.

Oonagh Coleman gave a massive roadside breathalyser reading after causing her silver-coloured Seat Ibiza to collide with the rear of a black Vauxhall Zafira.

Her alcohol level was officially put at 131mcg in 100ml of breath – just 1mcg shy of being six-times the limit – after she provided further samples on a police intoximeter machine some time after the 8pm collision.

The legal alcohol limit currently stands at 22mcg.

Greenock Sheriff Court heard how Coleman, 48, was arrested following the two-vehicle smash on the town’s Inverkip Road on December 27.

Prosecutor Lindy Scaife said: “Police attended as the result of an accident involving the accused’s car and another vehicle.

“Officers found the accused sitting in the driver’s seat of her own car.

“She was smelling strongly of alcohol.”

Fiscal depute Ms Scaife added: “The accused provided a roadside sample of her breath which tested positive for alcohol.

“She was conveyed to the intoximeter room at Greenock police office, where the lower of the two readings taken from the machine was 131mcg of alcohol.

“The accused was not cautioned and charged at the time due to the level of her intoxication.”

Coleman, above, of Albert Road in Gourock, pleaded guilty to drink-driving and to driving without due care and attention and causing the collision with the Zafira.

Defence lawyer Edel McGinty said: “Ms Coleman is a carer and she has never come to the attention of the police before.”

Sheriff Thomas Ward deferred sentence on Coleman until January 25 for a background report.

He immediately banned her from the roads pending the sentencing hearing.
