A GREENOCK man is set to stand trial at the High Court accused of multiple counts of rape.

Neil Kane is facing a total of 11 charges of violence, including claims he tried to throw one alleged victim out of a third-floor window before pouring water from a kettle over her.

Kane, 53 — who is said to have attacked three women — twice assaulted one of them to the danger of her life, it is alleged.

Prosecutors say he carried out a series of rapes against two of the females named in the catalogue of charges against him.

He is said to have committed the alleged historical offences during a 15-year period between January 1 1995 and December 31 2010.

Kane, of Belville Street, is now in prison after being remanded in custody following a private appearance on petition at Greenock Sheriff Court.

As well as the alleged rapes, prosecutors say he pushed one of the women down a flight of stairs at a property in Finnieston Street, Greenock, to the danger of her life on Hogmanay 2000.

Another charge alleges that he seized the woman by the neck, lifted her off her feet and compressed her neck to the danger of her life in the Argyll and Sutherland pub in the town’s Bruce Street on March 27 2001.

Kane is accused of grabbing the woman’s throat and choking her at the Finnieston Street address between January 1 1995 and January 31 2002.

It is alleged that he attacked another woman at properties in Brisbane Street and Prospecthill Street on various occasions between January 15 2002 and December 31 2006.

The charge claims that Kane presented a knife at her, seized her neck, pinned her against a wall, compressed her neck, pulled her hair, dragged her, forcibly pulled her earrings from her ears, punched her on the head and body and kicked and stamped on her.

He is also said to have assaulted and raped the woman on various occasions at the addresses between January 15 2002 and December 31 2006.

Prosecutors say that Kane pushed the female down a flight of stairs and stamped on her at an address in St John’s Road, Gourock, between January 15 2002 and December 31 2006.

He is further accused of raping another woman on various occasions between December 1 and 31 2010 at a flat in Greenock’s South Street.

Another charge alleges that he raped the woman on various occasions between January 1 2007 and November 30 2010 at addresses in Greenock and Dunoon.

It is alleged that he punched her on the face to her severe injury at a third-floor flat in Robertson Street, Greenock, between January 1 2006 and December 31 2010.

He is said to have seized her hair, pushed her against an open window and attempted to throw her out of the window, all to her severe injury.

Kane is further accused of grabbing the woman’s hair, ripping off her clothing, kicking her on the body, dragging her to a bedroom and pouring cold water from a kettle over her.

He made no plea or declaration to the allegations through lawyer Aidan Gallagher during the petition hearing before Sheriff Iain Fleming.
Kane, of Belville Street, Greenock, has been fully committed for trial.
