SENORS and señoritas across Inverclyde are being invited to learn some sizzling steps at a new salsa class.

A taste of Havana is coming to Greenock in the shape of Cuban Salsa classes which are being launched at The White Hats tapas bar and restaurant.

Ashish Mendiratta, who owns the restaurant, says the idea is to bring something fun to the area which encourages people to socialise and keep fit.

He said: “I have organised the company Academia de Salsa to come down and do the classes.

“I saw them host a salsa class at my friend’s restaurant and I couldn’t believe how popular it was.

“When I spoke to the lady from Academia de Salsa she told me that people from Greenock and Gourock travel to Paisley for the class.

“So I thought it would be a great idea to start classes in Greenock.

“We have a separate room in the restaurant which is perfect for the classes.”

Caragh Jamison, 18, who is a waitress at the restaurant and Kenneth Mearns, 17, who works in the kitchen, put their dance moves to the test ahead of a free taster class.

Speaking to the Tele, Caragh said: “I think it will be quite popular.

“I’ll be working but I’m looking forward to seeing what it’s like.”

Ashish said: “There is nothing in the town like this, that’s why I wanted to start it.”

The four week introductory course begins on Tuesday at 7pm.
