PINT-SIZED patrollers from a Greenock school are driving a campaign to stop parents parking dangerously outside the gates.

Ardgowan Primary’s junior road safety officers Adam Kinmond and Callum Charteris, both in primary six, are determined to stop parents putting children’s lives at risk.

The dynamic duo have asked parents to pledge their allegiance to the cause by signing their School Drivers Charter.

They have also handed out car stickers to parents which read ‘I am an Ardgowan Primary School Child Friendly Driver’.

Adam, who is in P6B, said: “We’re trying to stop parents parking at the gates because it’s putting children in danger.

“I think it will work.”

Callum told the Tele: “As junior road safety officers we are responsible for making sure everyone is safe in and around the school.”

The pupils, with support from road safety officers Margaret Dixon and Eileen Bell, officially launched their campaign at a school assembly.

Head teacher Alison McLellan is proud of the boys and their efforts and she hopes mums and dads will listen to their safety plea.

She said: “Parking is a big problem here, as well as at other schools throughout the area.

“Although many drivers are parking properly unfortunately some are double parking and lifting kids over the barriers or parking at the gates.

“You also see parents standing on the road waiting for their children, so some of the parents are setting a really poor example of road safety.”
