A NEW Greenock rock band are asking people to ‘Take a Chance’ on them.

Four-piece hard rock outfit Black Dove, pictured, only formed three months ago, but already have some high profile fans including DJ George Bowie and TV newsreader John MacKay.

The band which features school pals Josh Cunningham as lead vocalist/guitarist, Conal Harrington, guitarist/backing vocalist, Ross McManus, bass/backing vocalist and Hamish McGowan on drums, have released their first single ‘Take a Chance’.

Band member Ross, of Kingston Dock, who is studying music and also works as a kitchen assistant at Balclutha Court Care Home, says they have an exciting year ahead.

He said: “We only formed three months ago but it’s been great so far.

“Two weeks ago, we played in the Darroch Bar as we supported The Skarsoles.

“We had a great turnout for that.

“We’ve also been offered to play at three big Glasgow venues – King Tut’s, the Old Hairdresser’s and the Record Factory.

“But it turned out that because me and Josh are still 17, we weren’t allowed to perform at any of them because of the over-18 rule.

“I’m disappointed about it, but it was brilliant to be offered them in the first place.”

Ross and his bandmates, who are all former pupils of Clydeview Academy, have high hopes for their debut single.

He said: “The response to it has been really good.

“Newsreader John MacKay retweeted the link to our single and so did DJ George Bowie, which was brilliant.

“We’ve had a few thousand plays on Spotify and it’s also had a few purchases on Google Play and iTunes while there are a few physical copies on sale too.

“We’ve also recorded a music video for the single too which we filmed down at The Hub in Gourock.”

The band, who have over 400 likes on Facebook, are now focusing on the year ahead.

Ross added: “We want to create our own path and make it big using our own style and sound.

“We would like to get signed by a record label and we’re also planning to go on tour around Scotland and the UK.

“We’re going to try and fund that ourselves. We’re also trying to get a slot to play at the Fake Festival in Greenock this July.”
