A ROW of shops in Greenock is being given a £45,000 facelift.

Work has started to improve six units in Broomhill Way as part of the wider regeneration of the estate.

The project will see fire exit doors being repaired and replaced, while damaged areas of roughcast, timber fascias and walkways behind the units will also be fixed.

New shop fronts will also be installed.

Councillor Michael McCormick, Inverclyde Council’s environment and regeneration convener, says the work will make a big difference to the area.

He said: “Local shops are at the heart of our communities.

“It is so important for people to be able to pop out to their local stores rather than traipse all the way into the town centre or a retail park.

“Given the significant investment that is being made in the wider Broomhill area, the council thought it absolutely necessary to invest in some of the local retail infrastructure to mirror the improvements elsewhere.”

The renovation work is part of the wider £3m regeneration of the area which is being undertaken by Inverclyde Council, Riverside Inverclyde and River Clyde Homes.
