IT’S ‘fair play’ to pupils at King’s Oak Primary School after they went above and beyond to help farmers in developing countries.

The school hall came alive with activity as the youngsters invited their parents, carers and community groups along to a Fairtrade coffee morning.

Jakki McAliece, a senior early years education and childcare officer at the school, says it was a great success.

She said: “Myself and Joanne Blair, the P5 class teacher, both helped to organise this.

“It’s been a great success and the parents have been so supportive.”

Anne Doig, who is the secretary of the school’s ‘parent circle’ group were delighted to support such a fantastic vent.

She said: “This event is obviously to promote Fairtrade and all the good that comes from that.

“It’s also great to bring the parents in and have a chat and get to know each other over a nice cup of tea.”

Staff from the EE call centre also came along to support the coffee morning.

Elaine Gallacher, who is a concierge at the firm and whose son Fraser attends the school, said: “It was great to be invited to the coffee morning.

“We gave information and advice to the parents about how to sign up for the school’s Twitter page to keep up-to-date with school news. It’s great to give something back to the community.”

Emma Stevenson, who is a family support worker at Barnardo’s, was also thrilled to be at the event.
