TWO Greenock charities are over £1,000 better off thanks to the efforts of a local policewoman.

Constable Kirsty Boyd proved she is ‘miles better’ by completing a marathon trek around 20 schools across Inverclyde.

Her fantastic fundraising feat raised £2,102, which was split between Reach for Autism and the Butterfly  at Ardgowan Hospice project.

Vicki McCarthy, of Reach for Autism, said she is overwhelmed by the generous donation.

She added: “We are delighted to receive such a large amount of money – and it will make a huge difference to us and the work we do.

“I think the challenge that Kirsty undertook was really different and unique.”

Janice Lee, who is a child and family worker with the Butterfly service, was equally delighted by the kind gesture and says the money will be used to support bereaved children and young people.

She said: “Butterfly at Ardgowan provides pre and post bereavement support.

“It gives children and young people the chance to tell their story, talk about their feelings and share worries.

“They can explore what is important to them and find coping skills to help them manage challenging times now and in the future.”

Chief Inspector Elliot Brown said he was very impressed by PC Boyd.

He said: “We are absolutely delighted that Kirsty was able to raise such a large amount of money for two really worthwhile charities.”

PC Boyd has thanked everyone for supporting her charity mission.
