POLICE are hunting for two men who robbed a man walking to work in Greenock early yesterday morning.

The 24-year-old was going down Ratho Street around 5.45am when he was approached by two men, one of whom was holding a knife.

They demanded money, and he fell down after being punched on the face.

The men picked up some money that fell out of his pockets, and the victim, who suffered a small cut to his face, took the chance to run off.

Detective Inspector David Wagstaff said the robbers are described as being of medium build, wearing dark grey hooded tops.

One was about 6ft 1in, wearing dark grey jogging bottoms, and the other was 5ft 8in, wearing light grey jogging bottoms.

He said the suspects initially shouted a name at the man, and attacked him after he told them that wasn’t his name.

DI Wagstaff said: “Our initial check of CCTV footage in the area shows a male in a high visibility jacket who may have seen something.

“I am also aware the area is used as a pick-up point for work buses, and urge anyone who saw the suspects to get in touch.”

He also appealed for help from anyone nearby with private CCTV or motorists with dash-cam systems in their vehicles who were travelling in the area around that time, asking them to check footage to see if they captured the incident.

Anyone who can assist inquiries is asked to call police on 101.
