CANDIDATES wishing to stand in May’s election to Inverclyde Council have until 4pm today to confirm their nominations.

Polls open at 7am on Thursday May 4 for the Scottish local government elections and in Inverclyde 22 councillors will be elected in seven wards.

Nominations for those who wish to stand for election to the Inverclyde Council at these elections must be received no later than 4pm today.

To be able to stand candidates must be at least 18 years old on the day of nomination and either a British citizen, an eligible Commonwealth citizen or a citizen of any member state of the European Union.

Candidates must meet at least one of the following qualifications: Be registered as a local government elector for the local authority area in which they wish to stand; have occupied as owner or tenant any land or other premises in the local authority area during the whole of the 12 months before the day of nomination; their main or only place of work has been in the local authority area during the 12 months before the day of nomination or have lived in the local authority area during the whole of that period.

Nomination for those who wish to stand for election to the Inverclyde Council at these elections must be received no later than 4pm today by the Returning Officer at The Election Office, Municipal Buildings, Greenock, PA15 1LX.
