GOOD sports at Ardgowan Hospice showed their sweet side by being drenched in custard for a charity challenge.

Staff and volunteers held their own poll to nominate a member of the senior management team to be dunked as part of the organisation’s annual Go Yellow month.

The brave team of Ian Marshall, Nicola Beattie, Dr Sandra McConnell, Veronica Harper, Allison Brown and Michelle Burns agreed to the challenge to help raise vital funds for patient care.

Staff and volunteers really got into voting, with many donating more than £1 per vote just to see their favourite ‘win’.

Nicola Gray, finance assistant, said: “We’ve just finished year end accounts so this is payback for the extra hours we’ve worked!

“The atmosphere in the hospice has been great as everyone has been excited to watch the senior management team squirm.

“The managers have been great sports for putting themselves up for this and staff and volunteers are calling for it to be an annual event as part of the Go Yellow campaign.”

The lucky winner to be covered in yellow custard was Veronica Harper, the hospice’s head of people and transformation.

Veronica said: “I can’t quite believe how excited the staff and volunteers were at the thought of us being gunged but it was good fun and we raised a total of £129 which is fantastic.”

The yellow custard mix was cooked up by Bridget Maunders and her catering team.

She quipped: “I kept it in the fridge overnight just so it was really, really cold – just for that extra kick.”

The month of May is Go Yellow at Ardgowan Hospice and the fundraising team is asking the public to get involved to raise as much as they can for the Greenock charity.

Michelle Burns, hospice head of development, said: “Get your friends, classmates or work colleagues together and help us to paint Inverclyde yellow this May.

“You can host a yellow cake bake sale, hold a yellow dress down day, decorate your class or office yellow, or take the Go Yellow Custard Challenge like we did.”
