GREENOCK welcomed a ‘Mediterranean masterpiece’ who made waves as she made her first trip to Inverclyde.

The huge £800m MSC Preziosa — the biggest cruise ship that will visit the town this year — turned heads as she docked at Greenock’s Ocean Terminal on Friday.

The breathtaking boat called as part of an 11-night northern Europe cruise.

To mark the luxury ship’s maiden call to Greenock, the Tele enjoyed a VIP tour around the majestic vessel.

After a warm welcome from the Inverclyde Tourist Group quayside, we made our way on to the floating palace.

With sweeping Swarovski crystal grand staircases, a magical ‘infinity’ pool, spa, theatre, casino, nightclub and a plethora of bars and restaurants, the MSC Preziosa is the epitome of stylish sailing.

Antonio Paradiso, who is MSC’s managing director for UK and Ireland, said it was wonderful to dock in Greenock.

He told the Tele: “I’m very, very happy to be here.

“We’re keen to keep Greenock on the map for MSC.

“Our itinerary around Britain has proved very successful especially with people from Germany, France, America, the US and Russia.

“Greenock has great people and has a great atmosphere. I love it.

“We have a fantastic relationship with the port, they are very supportive. It’s a pleasure to work with them.”

Mr Paradiso said they are bringing another of their incredible vessels to town next year.

He added: “The MSC Meraviglia, which is the second biggest cruise liner in the world, is coming to Greenock.

“This ship will have 5,700 passengers so this is going to have a pretty big impact on the local economy.”

Natalie Billington, from MSC, treated the Tele to a fabulous tour of the stunning ship which also features an aqua park with the longest single rider water slide, the Eataly slow food gastronomy and Galaxy restaurant.

The floating palace set off, bound for Dublin, but will return to Greenock’s waters in August.
