INVERCLYDE people who have suffered a stroke are bowling along with rehabilitation at a Greenock leisure centre.

The Stroke Matters group meet regularly at Inverclyde Indoor Bowling Club, and are full of praise for the facility.

Group member Alison Watson says 12 of them enjoy an afternoon of bowls every couple of weeks.

She said: “Playing here builds confidence, and we all feel safe.”

She arranged the visits through Inverclyde Leisure’s indoor bowls attendant Gordon Hammerman.

Club members include John Fleming, the Scottish Junior and Under-21 champion, and rising star Michael Stevenson.

Alison said Stroke Matters had received support from Councillor David Wilson, who joined them, above, at one of their bowling sessions.

Councillor Wilson said he fully backed Inverclyde Council’s decision to maintain the indoor bowling club, the future of which had been the subject of speculation recently.

He said: “It’s great for the Stroke Matters group.”
