CRAFTY kids are using their entrepreneurial skills to raise money for school funds.

Bright sparks at Ardgowan Primary have raised over £1,000 this year by setting up a monthly ‘crafty cafe’ which is attended by different classes each month.

It sees pupils in primary six sell hand made produce to other pupils and parents.

Head teacher Alison McLellan said: “This is the sixth time they have run the cafe.

“The pupils in P6a started it to fund their Clyde in the Classroom project however it was such a success that they continued to run the cafe every month for school funds.

“They have raised over £1,000 this year.

“It’s been great for the children, they have learned lots of numeracy skills and how to balance the books.

“They also know how to work out profit and what money they have to pay back to people.”

Every month, the pupils invite classes and their parents along to the cafe and sell an array of goodies including home baking and crafts.

Mrs McLellan says teacher Charlene McCluskey and classroom assistant Shona McKenzie have been instrumental in the success of the project.

She added: “They have worked really hard on this.”
