GREENOCK Golf Club members are showing an eagle eye after smashing course hole-in-one records.

A remarkable eight aces have been notched up in the space of a few weeks as players strike perfect tee shots.

Club captain Jim Duncan has high hopes of even more.

He said: “Normally the members average two or three holes-in-one in a year, but this year they have excelled themselves, with not even five or six of them but an amazing eight — and the season has barely started.”

The celebrated players are Jim (who aced the 10th), Joe Ball (16th), Ronnie Parker (16th), Mark McCaig (10th), Richard Terrey (3rd), Ian McFadyen (16th), Anne Terrey (16th) and Moira McInnes (10th).

Jim said: “Members who achieve a hole-in-one can also claim a Boss watch.

“So if you see someone wearing one it’s because they probably got a hole-in-one at Greenock!”

Club secretary/manager, Heather Sinclair, added: “The holes-in-one are tremendous achievements by the members involved.

“To build on this, we have secured prizes for our gents open singles competition next Sunday. We’re hopeful that someone scores a hole-in-one, and wins one of the fantastic prizes.”

The star prizes on the par threes means hole 13 could be especially lucky for someone, as they could walk away with no less than £5,000.

Hole seven meanwhile offers the chance of a three-night holiday at the Marriott Praia Del Rey in Portugal, while the 10th features a two-night trip for four at the Marriott Forest of Arden and the 16th a set of ‘TaylorMade’ golf irons.

Heather added: “This is a big day at Greenock Golf Club — every hole is sponsored by local businesses who have donated fabulous prizes, and we are very grateful to our main sponsor, the Golden Casket group.

“There will be a barbecue and a raffle with fabulous prizes.

“There are still spaces available for players, and bookings can be made by logging on to the club’s website — www.greenockgolfclub.co.uk — and clicking on the open competitions booking link.

“We are indebted to our member Gordon Cameron for his organisation of the day.”
