PEDAL power will push a Greenock woman on a charity challenge in memory of her late best friend.
Business administrator Karen Gordon is gearing up for the ‘Beat the Ferry’ challenge in aid of the Beatson Cancer Charity.
It is an island-hopping 52-mile cycle over four stages where participants catch the ferry at each stage.
Karen, of Newark Street, is doing it in memory of Karen McGlone, who passed away at the age of 52 after battling breast cancer.
She hopes to raise as much money and awareness of the charity as possible.
She said: “When my best friend Karen died from breast cancer it was devastating.
“She was looked after at the Beatson and I’ve actually known about four people close to me who have used the Beatson in the past couple of years. This is about raising awareness and raising money, as the Beatson does so much for people.
“We are so lucky to have it.”
Karen’s June 24 challenge begins in Ardrossan and the route continues through Brodick, Lochranza, Claonaig, Tarbert, Portavadie, Colintraive, Rhuboddach and Rothesay before ending in Wemyss Bay.
Karen added: “I’m a bit nervous as I’m not really a cyclist, but I’m looking forward to it.”
She is keen to thank everyone who has supported her so far, including her best-friend Karen’s husband John Watters.
