TALENTED pupils will prove they are a cut above when they take to the stage to perform their dazzling production of the musical Hairspray.

The energetic cast at Clydeview Academy will be coiffed to perfection as they present their colourful adaptation of the hit stage and screen musical.

One of the stars of the show Joanna Crossan, 16, said: “It’s been great doing the show as we’ve all become really close as a cast.

“It’s been brilliant to see the whole show come together.”
Fifth year pupil Karen McLeod, 16, told the Tele: “I’ve really enjoyed it. It’s been great to work on something which has turned out well in the end.”

Fellow cast member Sian Campbell added: “This is a great show because it’s so well known.

“We’ve had a lot of fun.”

Alan Beck, who is the principal teacher of music at the school and musical director of the show, says the pupils have been rehearsing tirelessly for the past six months.

He said: “It’s all coming together now.

“Audiences can expect a fun, fantastic musical — it’s wonderful.

“There’s a mix of rock, soul, gospel, 60s and Broadway music.”

Valerie Forsyth, who is the director/producer alongside Michelle Bowman, says the show is fun from start to finish.

She said: “It’s been a lot of fun doing it, the music is brilliant.”

Valerie says all the pupils have thrown themselves into rehearsals.

She added: “We’re really lucky as we have got a lot of girls who are great singers and dancers and we also have a strong cast of boys, which is great.”

Valerie and Alan were keen to thank Shirley Dunsmore, one of the parents, who has created most of the set and props for the show.

The show runs from Wednesday to Friday.

Tickets, which cost £8 and £5 for concessions, are still available for Wednesday and Thursday night.
