GREENOCK’S Ocean Terminal has made the top five of destinations named by worldwide travellers through the ‘Cruise Critic’ website.

The port has claimed a prestigious ranking in the British Isles and Western Europe section, after Amsterdam, Cobh, Lisbon and Guernsey’s St. Peter Port.

Cruise Critic is billed as the world’s leading cruise review site and online cruise community.

This is the second year of their Choice Destination Awards, with results based entirely on reviews posted on the website.

In third place last year, Greenock set a new record in 2015 as the first Scottish port to welcome more than 100,000 passengers in one year.

Cruise Critic’s UK managing editor, Adam Coulter, said it was ‘wonderful’ to see Greenock had been rated so highly again by cruise travellers across the globe.

Mr Coulter said: “With cruise lines such as Princess, Celebrity, Crystal, and Disney all visiting Greenock, there are many opportunities for travellers to plan their ideal trip to this top-rated UK port and explore its history and enjoy breathtaking views over the River Clyde from the Esplanade and visit Lyle Hill.”

A host of favourable comments have been left on the Cruise Critic website by people who visited Greenock.

One person posted: “A couple of local people recommended sights, so we went on a photo walk.

“People in town were lovely and friendly.”

Others said they went on local tours, as well as excursions further afield to the Trossachs, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
