A SELL-OUT summer school is proving a stroke of genius for arty Inverclyde youngsters.

Boys and girls aged between five and 12 are enjoying a week of activities at the Beacon Arts Centre to keep their creative juices flowing during the holidays.

They are learning from the theatre’s creative learning team, including dance officer Gail Sneddon and Laura Pearce, who is in charge of the drama side, as well as special guests each day.

On Tuesday they were working with freelance artist Duncan Wilson to bring their sketches of monsters to life in the form of impressive 3D models.

Duncan said: “They used lots of different materials, paints, cardboard, cloths, pipe cleaners and lollipops.

“They’ve been working really hard and it’s been such good fun.

“What’s really lovely about working with young people is they are so creative and come up with ideas we adults wouldn’t have.

“It’s been very humourous and I’m very proud of them.”

The young people have also been learning about photography, acting and visual art.

Around 30 boys and girls from primaries one to seven have been attending the summer school every day.

Organiser Gail said: “We’ve had a brilliant week so far and it’s been good fun.

“It’s really nice to have different age ranges and to give them an opportunity to try different art forms.

“The children are all having a good time.”
