MORTON have teed up a special golf day with prizes including a holiday to Portugal and £10,000 cash.

Fans can rub shoulders with current Ton stars and Cappielow legends while making their way round Gourock Golf Course on Wednesday August 23.

Supporters will also have the chance to win £10k, a three-night golf holiday at the Marriott Praia del Rey Resort in Portugal or a two-night trip for four to the Marriott Forest of Arden Country Club in the West Midlands if they land a hole in one at the 17th, seventh or fourth holes, respectively, all thanks to club sponsor Millions.

The Texas scramble competition, in aid of Morton’s youth academy, is being organised by Greenock-born businessman and Morton director Brian Clements, of McTear’s Auctioneers in Glasgow.

Brian said: “It’s a fantastic opportunity for golfers who are also fans of the club to be in the company of players.

“We have a number of first team and youth players coming along on the day to partner the teams — and legends, including current manager Jim Duffy and Allan McGraw.

“The support of Millions has been great — the hole in one prizes are amazing.

“It would be brilliant if we got one on the day.”

Ton player Michael Doyle is one of the stars taking part.

He said: “I’m okay at golf but my dad and father-in-law are going and I told them if they wanted to win then pick Gary Harkins’ team because it’s at his course. It’ll be a good day out.”

Team-mate Gary Oliver, who has also signed up, joked: “I’m not the best so I might need 100 extra balls to take round with me but I’ll give it a go, that’s what it’s all about.”

Brian hopes the golf day will become a regular event to help the Ton academy.

He said: “The purpose of the day is to not only kick off what we intend to be our annual golf competition but to raise money in support of youth development, which is something my company, McTear’s, has been involved in for a number of years.

“The professional at Gourock Golf Club, Derek Watters, and the general manager, Allan Warwick, have been fantastic in helping to organise the event and we have a really good number of teams but there are some spaces available.

There will also be a raffle and auction back at the clubhouse afterwards.

Lesley Ann Webb, Morton sales executive, said: “We’re looking to engage with the community in new ways and we hope the golf day is a huge success like the recent Ladies Day at Cappielow.”

Carly Rae-Fulton, sales and marketing assistant for Millions, added: “We’re delighted to be involved and hope everyone has millions of fun.”
