THE site of the fire-ravaged former Larkfield Masonic Association Hall in Greenock is to be sold at auction next month.
Greenock firefighter Andy Adams was left paralysed after a wall collapsed on him as he tackled a deliberate blaze at the derelict building a year ago.
Now the land is being sold for a ‘guide price’ of £240,000 by Future Property Auctions.
They refused to name the owners of the land, citing data protection legislation.
However, a planning application for three retail units on the site, which was passed in June, identifies the applicants as Sava Estates Ltd. of Greenock and Bennett Developments and Consulting of Glasgow.
A deadline for online offers for the site passed on Friday, but the price was not achieved.
Now the site, pictured, will be sold at auction on September 12 at 7pm in Glasgow’s Radisson Hotel.
The sale information describes it as a rare, cleared prominent site ready for commercial or residential development.
The sellers say: “The site may suit a variety of uses, subject to researching and gaining the necessary consents.
“The site is big enough for four commercial units or a block of flats.
“It is ideally located within a popular area of Greenock, occupying a commanding position at the corner of Auchmead and Inverkip roads, with excellent transport links.”
Planning permission for shops at the old LMA was given despite eight objections, including fears that it will lead to a rise in anti-social behaviour and ‘noise and nuisance’ for neighbours living nearby, as well as concerns about an increase in traffic at an ‘already busy junction’ next to the A78 trunk road.
But council planners said the application met their criteria, and roads bosses had no issues with the proposals.
