A COMIC book project is set to turn a fresh page thanks to a £7,250 cash boost.
Magic Torch Comics has received funding from the People’s Postcode Lottery to help the group run its ‘Light Years’ project.
The scheme works with people over 65 to create new comics.
Writer Paul Bristow said: “Over the last few years, we have worked with lots of schools in Inverclyde and elsewhere to create comics, and it’s always been a really positive way to share stories.
“We wanted to try something a little different this time, working with people who would have been the first to experience the early comics boom in the 50s and 60s during that period of post-war excitement and enthusiasm, when anything seemed possible.”
Artist Mhairi Robertson says the group want to hear about what people read when they were young.
She said: “We want to hear people’s own stories, perhaps retelling incidents from childhood or growing up, or maybe even recreating the sorts of stories people enjoyed reading in comics like Eagle or Bunty when they were growing up.
“Paul will help people script that, and I will illustrate, but we are also hoping some local artists will be interested in getting involved.”
The sessions for the project will run in Greenock and Port Glasgow later this year and be free to access thanks to the support of Postcode Lottery’s community trust.
Information sessions will be held on Tuesday between 7pm and 8pm in the Dutch Gable House in Greenock and Wednesday from 7pm to 8pm in 7 ½ John Wood Street, Port Glasgow.
