A LIFELONG Greenockian hopes for a ‘ton’ of luck in his new home after taking on the 100th let in a newly regenerated neighbourhood.

Aldo Imponenti, who was born in Ann Street, is the 100th customer to sign for a home in the Broomhill area.

The estate is undergoing a massive £26m regeneration by River Clyde Homes and its partners.

Aldo said: “I love this area.

“Both my older brother and I were born at home in Ann Street in Broomhill and have seen the area change through the years.

“It is a wonderful place to live where everyone knows and looks out for each other.”

The regeneration will see over 600 homes being upgraded.

Bosses at River Clyde Homes say the new homes are energy efficient thanks to double glazing, insulated render and bio-mass heating designed to keep customers’ fuel bills down.

New security features have also been introduced, including a community CCTV system and door entries with video links.

Broomhill Court, at the heart of the estate, has recently been designated as retirement housing, to provide an enhanced housing management service to older people who require assistance to live independently.

Elaine Cannon, service improvement manager at the housing association, says tenancies are much in demand.

She said: “Since the Broomhill Court open day on Scottish Housing Day we have had a great deal of interest and a number of properties have been allocated within the block.”

Services on offer at the new look block will include a facilities manager on site, call points on landings and guest room facilities.

Sandra McLeod, RCH executive director of customer services, believes the new look housing will make a big difference to the community.

She said: “The Scottish Housing Day campaign was a resounding success and the open day was one of the most positive experiences I’ve seen here.

“The team has now hit a major milestone in letting 100 properties in Broomhill.

“We have been working with the committed local community and are dedicated to continuing to make a difference to Broomhill and to our customers’ quality of life.”
