TWO Greenock brothers had the night of their lives as they walked onto the pitch at a packed Champions League match with a pair of star players.

Siblings Oliver and Lucas Wagstaff were ecstatic to be chosen as Mastercard mascots for the Manchester City v Napoli game at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Nine-year-old Oliver says it was a dream come true to walk out with Man City star Fernandinho while Lucas, eight, was equally as excited to be paired with midfielder Fabian Delph.

Oliver said: “It was brilliant.

“It was the best day of my life.

“I want to thank Mastercard and Man City very much.”

The young football fanatics, who both attend All Saints Primary School, got the opportunity to be mascots after winning a competition run by sponsors Mastercard.

Their parents David and Lauren say it was a very special moment to see their boys walk out on the pitch.

David told the Tele: “In the words of Mastercard, it was a priceless experience. It was an unforgettable day for them.

“One of my family members is unwell at the moment and Man City had learned about it, so they treated the boys really well.

“They took the two boys down the stairs to outside the players’ dressing rooms, so they met all the players who took time to speak to the boys.

“They also each received signed footballs.

“The sheer kindness shown by Man City and Mastercard blew us all away. We can’t thank them enough.”

David says Oliver and Lucas both love to play the beautiful game.

He added: “Oliver trains with Ardgowan Football Development in Wemyss Bay and plays for Ardgowan Thistle.

“Lucas started with Ardgowan Football Development but he’s recently moved to the Morton Community Team.

“They are both huge Man City fans, that’s their favourite English team, so it was an amazing experience for them.”

To top off their perfect day, City won the match 2-1.
David, 46, who is detective inspector at Greenock Police Station and his wife Lauren, 38, who works as a history teacher, said the boys also had the chance to do some sightseeing in Manchester. He added: “We went to the Imperial War Museum.

“They love history so they wanted to visit it.”
