A COURAGEOUS tot who nearly died after developing meningitis has inspired his family and friends to raise over £5,000 for charity.

Little Leyton Story from Greenock was left fighting for his life after developing meningitis but against all the odds he pulled through thanks to the nurses and doctors at both the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley and the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow.

As a thank-you, his family and friends have rallied round to raise £5,383 for the Glasgow Children’s Charity, formerly known as Yorkhill Children’s Charity.

Leyton’s mum Kirsty said: “It’s absolutely amazing. All the money raised was through various fundraising events which have taken place since April.”

Kirsty was especially keen to thank local transport firm Wilson’s Buses for their support.

She added: “The whole family have been a brilliant support to us throughout.

“Robert, his wife Carol and their two sons Ross and Robert did a half marathon and raised £300 and it was Robert senior who organised the charity bingo night at the Branchton Community Centre.

"They also helped us with our charity night and they have provided all the transport to and from the Kiltwalk, the 10k walk and the cheque presentation.

“Everyone has been absolutely brilliant and I will never be able to thank everyone enough, but the Wilson family have gone above and beyond for us.”
