A WRESTLER from Greenock is onto a sweet thing after a cake was made in his honour.

Husband and wife Robert and Holly Donnelly, who run Babycakes in Nicolson Street, have risen to the occasion and recreated local brawler and shop customer Lucha DS in sponge and icing ahead of his latest fight in the town hall tonight.

The Greenock grappler is a regular at the novelty cake shop and was delighted when the owners offered to turn him into a tasty treat.

Lucha said: “The detail of the cake is amazing.

“When I came in to have a peek at it I was blown away.

“I’ll give it away to a fan at the show.”

Holly baked the cake and Robert iced it before the Greenock couple presented it to their king of the ring ahead of his six-man elimination match at the latest Premier British Wrestling (PBW) Maximum Impact show.

Robert said: “I hope his opponent doesn’t get a hold of it and put it in his face!

“Lucha’s a customer of ours and his wee boy, who is going to be four, got his first birthday and Christening cakes from here.

“When Lucha’s got a show on we put posters up for him and we’ve been to a show before, so with one happening in Greenock I told him I had made cakes of wrestlers and asked if he wanted one.”

Now Lucha, who trains at the PBW Academy at Greenock Sports Centre, hopes a good performance tomorrow night will be the icing on the cake.

He said: “I’m really looking forward to being back competing in my hometown and I’ll be going all out to put on a good performance for the fans.

“We’ll also make a special case for the cake, it would be a shame if it ended up on the canvas.

“I’m on the road all this month and was in Edinburgh at the weekend there with Discovery Wrestling, which was one of my biggest shows.

“I’ve got Greenock this weekend then up to Wick for three days.

“I’ve also got shows coming up in Caithness, Dumbarton, Sunderland, Hull then Aberdeen, so things are going really well for me.”
