TWO courageous Greenock breast cancer survivors took centre stage at one of Scotland’s most inspiring fashion shows.

Angela Owens, 50, and Susan Reaney, 53, strutted their stuff in front of hundreds of people at the glitzy Breast Cancer Care Scotland event at the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow.

The stunning duo, who modelled a range of outfits, helped to raise more than £150,000 for the charity.

Mum-of-one Angela, from Glen Fruin Road, says it was a night she’ll cherish for the rest of her life.

She said: “It was an amazing experience and so much fun.”

The courageous mum, who works at Ardgowan Medical Practice, was distraught when she was diagnosed with breast cancer seven years ago.

She underwent a lumpectomy and also endured chemo and radiotherapy before being given the all clear a year later.
Fellow breast cancer survivor Susan, right, said: “I’m a shy person so it was quite daunting but I loved every minute of it.

“It was very emotional as you know that your family is sitting in the crowd.”

Susan, who lives with her husband Hugh, 50, and her son Lewis, 17, was diagnosed with breast cancer 25 years ago, aged 28.

Susan, who has the faulty inherited BRCA2 gene, believes positive thinking helped her through treatment which included a double mastectomy, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and a hysterectomy.

This year she is celebrating 25 years since beating breast cancer, despite the fact that she is living with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma, having been diagnosed three years ago at the age of 50.

She added: “I feel great and I’ve just got to get on with it.

“It’s a different type of cancer so I’ve just been unlucky.

“It’s just a watch and wait situation.”

Susan and Angela are keen to thank all their family, friends and work colleagues who supported them.

Angela said: “My daughter Stephanie and my husband Raymond came along as did my mum and my brother and his wife.

“A couple of girls from work also came along and Dr Hamilton and her husband.”

Susan, who works at Texas Instruments, said: “My husband Hugh and my son Lewis came along as well as my brother and three sisters.

“My two cousins Helen and Sarah Librea also travelled all the way from America to see the show.

“Texas Instruments kindly bought a table and donated it to my family and friends which was lovely.”
