AN army of lifesavers showcased their skills at an opening evening.

St Andrew’s First Aid Cadets opened their Tuesday night meetings at Lyle Kirk on the Esplanade to members of the public.

Cadet officer Jennifer Jones, who takes the classes, said: “First aid is very important as you can save a life.

“We cover CPR, right up to how to treat a burn or deal with shock, anything you may come across in everyday life.”

Jennifer joined the cadets when was 10, then progressed to the adult corps when she was 16 and is now an officer.

She says that the cadets have proved a good grounding for many local people who have gone on to pursue a career in medicine.

Jennifer said: “We’ve had a few paramedics, doctors and nurses who volunteered as cadets.”

The group is open to eight to 16-year-olds and there is also the adult corps.

Jennifer added: “We have quite a few training nights and we ask the adult corps to join us and make it as much fun as possible.”

The group meets between 7 and 9pm.

If anyone is interested in joining, they should call Jennifer on 07881 411273.
