THE stage is set for a four-day feast of drama starring three of Inverclyde’s best-known actors — and we have two passes up for grabs for the event.

Greenock trio Jordan Benacci, Chris Gavin and Graham ‘Donkey’ Campbell are among the cast preparing for the Scottish Community Drama Association (SCDA) One Act Festival 2018, which starts at the Beacon Arts Centre next week.

They are starring in the comedy, ‘Mind Your Own Showbusiness’, written by Gourock playwright David Carswell, who is helping to organise the event.

The festival will showcase the best writing and acting talent locally from Wednesday until Saturday.

There are 12 shows in total — seven youth and five adult plays — each lasting between 25 and 45 minutes.

Audiences will be treated to three performances each night as the participants battle to represent Inverclyde in the next round of the SCDA contest.

Jordan, Chris and Graham, who recently starred in ‘Rock of Ages’ and ‘Mon Eh Ton!’, are performing for GIP Theatre Company and there will be plays from the likes of Greenock Players, Kayos Youth Theatre and casts from St Stephen’s and Port Glasgow High schools.

David, who is also vice-chairman of the local SCDA committee, said: “The guys will be appearing in ‘Mind Your Own Showbusiness’.

“It’s a comedy about a writer who suffers writer’s block and takes a comic look at modern TV.

“We’re extremely proud of the variety of entrants in this year’s festival in terms of age range of the actors and types of entertainment on offer.

“There are some very, very talented actors living locally and this festival is a real showcase of that talent.

“Rehearsals for the shows are all progressing well and the nerves will have kicked in for performers now.

“The festival will be judged by an adjudicator, but the main focus is on audience and casts enjoying the festival as a social occasion.

“We will be having a wee get together after the shows finish on Saturday.

“All are welcome.”

We have teamed up with the organisers to give away a pair of season tickets — worth £80 — for all four nights of the festival.

Tickets for the event, priced £12 per night for adults and £5 for under-18s, are on sale from beaconartscentre.co.uk or by calling 723723.
