ARDGOWAN Club recently held its annual Burns Supper and it proved to be a successful evening.

Over 80 members and friends gathered at the club to celebrate and pay tribute, in poetry and song, to the Bard.

Past president Gilbert McCracken led the proceedings, thanking his committee, members and friends for supporting the dinner.

Piped in by Billy McCready, Campbell McDiarmid carried in the haggis, before David Docherty addressed it with his usual gusto.

After an excellent meal, David Paton revealed a great knowledge with his toast to ‘The Immortal Memory’, followed by an amusing ‘toast to the lassies’ given by Malky McKechnie.

An equalling entertaining reply was given by Les McDowall.

The evening was interspersed with readings from David Docherty and songs from David Stirling and both gentlemen were well received by those in attendance.

Another past president, George McWilliam, thanked the chairman and the guests for their contribution.

David Stirling then led the gathering in the song ‘The Star of Rabbie Burns’ before the evening was brought to a close with the company joining together to sing Auld Lang Syne.
