CHILDREN from a Greenock school said a sad goodbye to the little Easter chicks they had taken under their wing.

A whole class at All Saints fell head over heels for the new friends they helped nurture and grow.

But now they are off to pastures new.

Teacher Jennifer McGachy says her P7 pupils were spellbound as they watched the chicks hatch one by one.

She said: “I absolutely love it and I always volunteer.

“I even take the chicks home with me at the weekend.

“We are delighted to have 10 eggs and 10 chicks.

“The children all love them.”

Over the last couple of the weeks the class have kept the chicks incubated.

After hatching they helped keep their fluffy little friends watered and warm.

Ann Rennie, 11, even wanted to come home from her dream holiday to watch them hatching.

She said: “I was in New York but I couldn’t wait to come back to school to see the chicks. I love them, they are so cute. We are sad to see them go.”

Her classmates James Glen, Joshua McClure and Reece Morris were also smitten.

James said: “My favourite bit was when they hatched. It was great to see it happening.”
