THERE are fears an historic Brownie unit could fold unless more volunteers urgently come forward.

The Kilmacolm group was founded 100 years ago but has had to cut meetings back to once a fortnight due to a lack of helpers.

Leaders are now making a heartfelt appeal to get the unit back to its former glory.

Committee Member Gillian Eashby said: “Last year Kilmacolm Girlguiding celebrated its 100 year anniversary, which is an amazing feat to have had involvement from a youth community for so many years.

“Unfortunately Kilmacolm Brownie unit has been struggling to maintain sufficient leaders to run.

“As an interim measure, the group is managing to keep the involvement of the current girls in Brownies by running every other week.

“In order to keep this community group going, we desperately need some new volunteers to help run it and we are currently looking to recruit anyone interested in volunteering in the Girl Guiding Association, in particular the Brownies.”

Gillian says there are plenty of children keen to join but since September each unit has only met every two weeks.

The leaders, Heather Pearson and Brown Owl Emma Corbett, are doubling up to keep the Brownies and Rainbows going.

They run the Brownies one week and the Rainbows the next.
Gillian said: “There are enough children who want to join but we need volunteers.”
