EMERGENCY road repairs will be carried out on a Greenock carriageway this weekend.

Inverclyde Council has announced that Old Largs Road will be closed from Friday night until Monday morning while work is carried out.

Officials say it is due to ‘rapid deterioration’ on a 30-metre stretch of the road.

A closure will be in place from the south of Whinhill Golf Club and the junction of Old Largs Road and Dunrod Road while repairs are carried out.

A council spokesman said: “Due to a rapid deterioration to up to 30m of the carriageway of Old Largs Road, our roads team is arranging emergency repairs over the weekend.

“We will require to close the road while the work takes place and hope to re-open on Monday morning.

“Drivers should leave extra time for journeys and follow the diversions this weekend.”

The closure will come into effect after peak time on Friday and it is expected to re-open by 6am on Monday.

Diversions will be in place and will be signposted.

The complete road closure is because of deep excavation work that has to be carried out as part of the repairs.
