POLICE swooped on a Greenock drug den and arrested a woman for peddling heroin after finding her trying to hide multiple packages of substance.

A squad of officers descended on Claire Miller's flat on Dempster Street as part of an intelligence-led operation and also recovered digital scales which had been set to 'grams'.

Miller, 35, was in the living room and was seen to swipe a zip-lock bag from a coffee table and drop it beside her sofa as a video recording of the raid was being filmed.

Within the bag were 16 individual street deal-sized 'wraps' of heroin, Greenock Sheriff Court was told.

Prosecutor Colin West said: "A crime team executed a search warrant for the locus at 9.15am.

"A systematic search of the property was carried out.

"Officers saw the accused in the living room snatching the bag from the table and dropping it beside the sofa."

The raid took place on October 3 last year, the court heard.

Miller — who told police that the heroin wasn't hers — pleaded guilty to a charge of being concerned in the supply of the Class A drug.

Fiscal depute Mr West said: "She made no reply to caution and charge."

Miller was originally charged with the offence along with her boyfriend Stephen McKee, 38, of Regent Court, but his plea of not guilty was accepted by the Crown.

Defence lawyer Gerry Keenan said: "She was involved because of an historical debt that required to be resolved.

"She attributed the debt exclusive to her boyfriend, but accepts that certain of it belonged to her.

"She knows how serious this is and she is very fearful of a custodial sentence."

Sheriff Andrew McIntyre deferred sentence for Miller to be assessed as to her suitability to be placed on a drug treatment and testing order.

The sheriff told her: "I'm not promising that is what I'm going to do here."

The case is due to call again on May 30.
