Family and friends have paid tribute to a Gourock marine engineer who died suddenly.
Simon Pollard, 23, pictured, had been working in Italy and was found dead on Saturday.
His great-aunt, Anne Pollard, who lives in Braeside, was shocked when she heard the news.
She said: 'It"s really sad. His family were informed on Saturday and I found out the next day.
'He was very clever and a nice boy. He will be sadly missed.'
His devastated mum, Liz Fisher, flew out to Italy after hearing the news. Simon was a former pupil of Notre Dame and St Ninian"s schools.
He went on to study at Glasgow Nautical College and gained an HND in marine engineering.
Lecturer Bill Moore, who taught Simon for two years, said: 'He was happy-go-lucky and fitted in well with students in the class and worked hard.
'He was a very good student and he had a bright future ahead of him.'
Simon"s pals used the internet to leave tributes to their friend.
They left a series of emotional messages on Simon"s social networking page, where they shared their memories of him and posted messages of condolence.
One touching tribute said: 'One in a million, Si. Get a good spot up there and save me a seat at the bar. Will never forget you. God bless.'
One grieving friend described Simon as "an absolute legend".
Another wrote: 'Rest in peace big man. You will be sadly missed by all.'
Simon"s friends spoke of his sense of humour, with one pal saying how she would have "so many funny memories" of him.
And they also expressed their shock at learning of the 23-year-old"s sudden death.
One wrote: 'I can"t believe you"re gone.'
It is believed Simon died of natural causes.
