T in the Park man had drugs

DRUG CHARGE: Greenock Sheriff Court.
A MAN bought a huge block of cannabis to supply to revellers at the T in the Park.
Greenock Sheriff Court heard Duncan Gallacher admitted purchasing a half bar of the drug to take to the music festival where he intended sharing it out among friends.
Midway through a two-day trial last week, the 29-year-old, of Lynedoch Street, Greenock, pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis resin with intent to supply on 26 June last year.
The court heard how officers stopped Gallacher in Drumfrochar Road before finding the bar of cannabis lying in the street nearby.
After taking the 29-year-old into custody, police, acting with consent, searched Gallacher's house in Lynedoch Street and his mother's address in Glamis Drive looking for more drugs, but returned empty-handed.
Giving evidence on Thursday, Gallacher admitted using seven grammes of a day and spending around £100 each week on cannabis, despite receiving an income of just £180 per fortnight.
When asked by defence solicitor Andrew Kennedy about the drugs recovered by police, Gallacher said: "I bought them to take to T in the Park a few weeks later. For some reason hash is like gold dust now, you just can't get it, and I wanted to make sure I had some to go with.
"I wasn't going to give it to my pals but I admit I would have passed around joints that I would have built."
Sheriff John Herald told Gallacher what he had done was still viewed as supply in the eyes of the court.
He said: "While I accept this was not a commercial operation, passing drugs among people is still seen as supply. As a result I will require background reports before deciding on sentencing."
Gallacher will appear again next month to learn his fate.
