A RUSH-HOUR crash on the A8 caused traffic chaos this morning for commuters leaving Inverclyde.
The accident occurred just after 7am near to the railway bridge at Langbank.
Although police say it did not result in any serious casualties, one car was left sitting in the middle of the eastbound carriageway and commuters faced lengthy delays as a result.
One motorist told the Tele there had been a tailback of around a mile, with traffic backed up to near the Woodhall roundabout, before vehicles finally started to flow freely again. The eyewitness, who did not want to be named, said: "The traffic was queued right back about a mile to the pitches at Parklea.
"And there was a car on the middle of the road with its right hand side all bashed in."
Inspector Paul Reilly, of the road policing department at Dumbarton, which now covers Inverclyde, said: "There appears to be only minor injuries caused as a result of the crash.
"It did, however, cause serious disruption to traffic." Inspector Reilly told the Tele the road had been gritted overnight - but confirmed arrangements were made for it to be treated again.
He said: "The road had already been gritted but it will be gritted again."
Meanwhile, there was serious disruption at the other end of Inverclyde, caused by roadworks on the A78, just south of Inverkip.
And there was also traffic chaos in Gourock after a double decker bus broke down in Cardwell Road. The vehicle was stuck at the traffic lights outside the Cardwell Bar causing queues in both directions.
