RAID SCENE: The store in Ingleston Street.

AN armed robber burst into a Greenock store and demanded money from terrified shop staff.

The man threatened two women at the M&J Convenience Store, in Ingleston Street, last night but when they refused to hand over cash, he fled. He is believed to have stolen a two-litre bottle of cider.

Police say no one was injured in the raid. Today, shop worker Colin Bonnar said: "There were two girls working in the shop. They said the guy came in with a knife and a gun.

"He said to them 'give me all the money' and they said 'no'.

"He took a bottle of cider and left. He had a hood up and a scarf up over his face. They were both upset."

The man was seen to run off in the direction of John Street at around 8.30pm.

Police are studying CCTV images of the raid.

Anyone who can help police with their inquiries should call Greenock CID on 492500, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
